الهيئة الإدارية لجمعية الأطباء الكويتيين في كندا 2023 – 2021

We openly condemn hate driven crimes in all its forms, as well these heinous discriminatory acts that are absolutely unacceptable. We understand that this horrifying event has reasonably shaken the Kuwaiti doctors currently living in Canada.
We extend our support to our Kuwaiti doctors, their families, and all Muslims in Canada who have been affected by the terrorist attack in London. Please reach out to us if you need any form of support.

re: a letter published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal (CMAJ) on December 20, 2021 under the title ”Don’t use an instrument of oppression as a symbol of diversity and inclusion” authored by Dr. Sherif Emil.
The AKDC is deeply disturbed by the content published by Canada’s largest medical journal CMAJ that we believe is promoting Islamophobia & hateful ideas painted with discriminatory speech.
Articles of this nature contradict the very core of the CANMeds roles & values we are trained to enshrine in our practice. It is shocking and appalling that an article wrongly echoing Islamophobic ideas has been approved for publication in a journal that should represent the entire medical body of Canada.
It is even particularly hurtful & insulting that these views are held and authored by a doctor who works with and trains our colleagues on a daily basis, including many Muslim women wearing the hijab. The toll of these views held by a colleague will take an incredible effort to heal.
Islamophobia is dangerous and causes insurmountable harm to its victims. Unfortunately, we are frequently reminded of these dangers seen by the tragic murder of Muslim Canadians in London Ontario by a domestic terrorist. The hateful sentiment in the article acts to further push the narrative against Muslims and stoke the flames of Islamophobia.
On behalf of our colleagues, The AKDC calls on the CMAJ to retract this article and issue a full apology for the publication.
To all our colleagues who wear the Hijab, we are moved by your resilience and strength. You bring tremendous pride and we are blessed by the incredible contributions you bring to the healthcare systems you work in. This is an incredibly hurtful article and we hope that these sentiments can one day become a shameful past.
To our Kuwaiti doctors here in Canada, please reach out to us if you feel you have been a victim of discrimination and learner maltreatment based on your identity. We are here to stand by you every step of the way and wish you all a healthy, inclusive working environment.
